Rain fails to dampen sheep prices
FOCUS ON FARMING
Very strong prices for prime ewes and lambs continued at the Dannevirke Sheep Sale on October 7. Reflecting the meat schedule there was strong competition among buyers driving top prime lamb prices over the $200/head comfortably, topping out at $236/head. Prime lambs were in good supply for this time of the year with two pens in excess off 100 animals and averaging $216/head and the total close to 500 averaging over $175/head. Prime ewes also sold well over 300 in number ranging from $181/head to $100/head. By contrast there were virtually no store lambs for sale.
