Pukehina surf lifesavers to the fore at regional awards
Pukehina Surf Rescue have again shown they punch well above their weight for a small club, when they became recipients of numerous accolades at the recently-held Zespri Surf Lifesaving Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Awards of Excellence. This prestigious annual event marks the end of another successful summer of surf lifesaving, and awards the region’s top lifeguards, the support crews, and wider surf lifesaving community who dedicate endless volunteer hours of patrolling and training so that their local communities can feel safe and able to enjoy our beaches. This year’s function to formally recognise outstanding achievement saw Pukehina Surf Rescue as finalists in Patrol Club of the Year. Individuals were awarded with the following: Nicole Baker — rookie lifeguard of the year BOP Boyd Harris — examiner of the year BOP and volunteer of the year BOP Andrew Mcdowell — lifeguard of the year BOP (shared with Omanu Beach Surf Lifesaving Club’s Tyler Nitschke) Luca Dehmer — rescue of the year BOP Andrew Mcdowell — received an eastern regional service award.
