The Orchestras Central Trust is going ahead with two concerts of easy listening classical music planned for Labour weekend in the hope they will not be affected by Covid restrictions. The OCT Ensemble has scheduled Orchestra by the Sea in Raglan on October 24 and Orchestra on Tour in Putaruru on October 25. The trust says it is staying hopeful that the concerts will go ahead. “Now more than ever before, help support the arts to survive and thrive,” the trust says. “Take a moment out of your Labour weekend to enjoy Orchestras Central’s professional orchestra OCT Ensemble on tour, in your very own community.” The concerts feature music by Handel and Mozart with young tenor Aidan Phillips and members of the ensemble as soloists. Two of New Zealand’s top bassoonists will also be performing together as soloists. The Waipoua for Clarinet and Strings by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr will be performed by Justus Rozemond and Oblivion by Piazzolla performed on the marimba by Yoshiko Tsuruta.
